DAVINES STORY

Founded in Parma, Italy in 1983 by the Bollati Family, Davines Group started as a research laboratory, producing high-end hair care products for renowned cosmetic companies worldwide. After a decade of honing our expertise, we began creating our own brand of Davines hair care hair care products exclusively for salons, and in 1996 founded (comfort zone) skin care for premier spas.

Our aim is to inspire and improve the work life quality of worldwide beauty professionals through concepts, products and services that will allow them to offer unique experiences to their clients.

A master of his profession, no one understands the transformative power of hair better than Kevin Murphy. His work has graced the covers of all the major global print publications and he has directed hair teams for countless high profile fashion houses. Having trained at Vidal Sassoon in London, Kevin returned to Australia to establish himself as one of the country’s most sought-after stylists. As a regular contributor to Australian Vogue he has carved his niche within the industry as the go-to-guy for the ‘beach hair’ look, and in 2007, Kevin was awarded the Australian Masters Award at the AHFAS for his outstanding contributions to the profile of Australian Hairdressing worldwide.

Working on shoots and fashion shows, models go through a number of hair and makeup changes in the course of a day. Kevin found that as the day progressed the models’ hair  became heavy, dull and lifeless, and there were no styling products on the market that fulfilled his needs as an editorial stylist…so, he created his own, and in answering his own needs as a stylist, he developed products that were easy to use and crossed over to consumers perfectly.

When searching the world for our ingredients, KEVIN MURPHY looked for companies that use micro cultivation, organic growing practices, or ecologically sound wild harvesting techniques to ensure the KEVIN MURPHY range is of the very highest natural quality. Vitamins and amino acids repair the outer surface of the hair, thickening the hair and reducing the formation of split ends.

Moisturisers from Mango butter and Murumuru butter smooth the cuticles and soften the hair.

Extracts from Peruvian Bark, Baobab, Bamboo and Orange Blossom infuse the hair with weightless moisture.

Antioxidants from Kakadu Plum, Orchid, Lotus Flower and Desert Lime reduce breakage and repair chemical damage naturally.

While the Dermalogica story begins in 1986, the force of change in the industry started in Los Angeles, circa 1983. Jane Wurwand, a tenured, United Kingdom-trained skin therapist new to the American “esthetician” industry, recognized that continuing skin and body therapy education was practically non-existent in the United States. While her training had been comprehensive and serious, US students entered the industry licensed yet under-trained, and worse, under-respected.

Jane put her education in action, opening a small classroom in Marina del Rey, California under the name The International Dermal Institute (IDI). She invited licensed skin therapists to get hands-on with the postgraduate training so critical to making them competitive in the business. Today, IDI is considered the international gold-standard for postgraduate skin and body therapy training with 37 locations worldwide
